Fittingly, Pirelli chose the opening round of the 2011 Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island (February 26-28) to launch its latest hypersport tyre – the Diablo Rosso Corsa.
The tyre, which features Aussie Superbike hero Troy Bayliss in its advertising material, effectively replaces the Diablo Corsa III in Pirelli’s line-up, and derives directly from world Superbike competition.
Pirelli has been the sole supplier of tyres for the Superbike World Championship since 2007.
Some Diablo Rosso Corsa characteristics include a zero degrees steel-belted construction and enhanced patch technology, which is claimed to provide superior grip on the road.
The tyre also has a high performance, high tension single cord, whose flexibility is claimed to give riders damping properties on an uneven road surface.
The tyre is multi compound, with the shoulders developed from the superstock title.
And according to Kevin Allen, Pirelli’s world Superbike spokesman, the tyre “offers on average 10hp more to your motorcycle”. That claim is borne out of “intense comparative tests” – we presume with the tyre’s major opposition.
Speaking of which, the Diablo Rosso Corsa will be sparring against the likes of the Dunlop Qualifier RR, Michelin Power Pure, Bridgestone BT 016 and Metzeler Sportec M5 for market share in the hotly contested hypersport tyre market.
The Diablo Rosso Corsa can also be personalised on the sidewalls for individual riders, with a set of six tyre labels that can be created online for each rider who rides on Diablo Rosso Corsa. All the preparation and ordering is done on-line, with a lead time of about two weeks for delivery.
The Diablo Rosso Corsa is available in the following sizes: 120/70ZR17, 160/60ZR17, 180/55ZR17, 190/50ZR17 and 190/55ZR17.
