Parrot’s new MiniKit Slim portable Bluetooth wireless hands free unit is a stylish and compact device that can be charged via your computer’s USB port or 12-volt power outlet (cigarette lighter), is easy to set up and simple to use. At $119 it’s also one of the cheaper multi-function units on the market.
Easily mounted to your car’s sun visor, the MiniKit Slim is pretty intuitive, boasts decent sized buttons for on-the-go ease of use and a large central control knob. This rotary dial acts as a multi-function control allowing access to the unit’s various features including contact list (which can store up to 2500 names), voice recognition, call answer or cancel, and access to DTMF signal sending.
Featuring an in-built Omni-directional microphone and the latest NR3 noise reduction, the MiniKit Slim packs a lot punch for its price and happily connects to most phone brands. In the instance of our test unit, we used an Apple iPhone 3GS.
Receiving calls is as easy as tapping a button, which doesn’t even require you to take your eyes off the road – it’s that well laid out. The unit cancels ambient noise rather effectively when transmitting to call recipients with freeway travel and air conditioner noise barely perceptible at the other end of the line.
With the speaker set to low MiniKit Slim doesn’t pack quite enough punch to be heard over ambient road noise, and is clearly better on higher volume settings, even if the tonal quality is decidedly “small speaker”.
A funky and sleek design Parrot’s new MiniKit Slim is a good deal for the price and very easy to set up -- one of the better units in this price range.
