As naming rights sponsor, Michelin used the 2016 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix to launch a new sport road tyre to market last weekend.
The new Michelin Power RS, set to hit Australian dealerships in January 2017, is a soft sport-focused road tyre which features new rubber compounds and a new carcass construction which, Michelin says, results in unparalleled grip on dry roads.
While the compounds are said to be influenced by the firm’s racing experience, the construction of the rear Power RS tyre is a patented technology the French firm calls MICHELIN ACT+ and is all about improving stability.
The Power RS is available in 13 different sizes, (four front-specific sizes as well as nine rear), all suited to 17-inch rims only. And while the compound and construction are biased towards sporty riding, the firm says the tyres themselves are suited to a wide range of motorcycles from small-capacity sportsbikes, to mid-sized nakedbikes through to 1000cc superbikes.
Prices for the new French tyres will be announced closer to the January 1, 2017 on-sale date.
