New Product: Dainese Maribor D-Dry pants

Looking for durable, protective and waterproof overpants that will stand the test of the time? These affordable Dainese pants are worth a look

What are they? Dainese Maribor D-Dry pants, which are waterproof textile motorcycle pants from Dainese, designed for long distance road and enduro touring scenarios, with knee and shin protection included.

On a recent trip from Mildrua in Victoria up to Milpera in the Flinders ranges in South Australia and then across to Lake Eyre, about 1600 kilometres in all, the Dainese enduro pants stood up to a quite a beating.

The first 800 kilometres of the trip was on bitumen and the pants proved comfortable, the velcro belt ensuring good cinching around the waist. The hard knee and shin guards are also a reassuring presence.

The lower ankle section of the protective trousers have elastic bands so you can tuck the trouser ends inside your boots. Thankfully there are also zips down the calf section so you can also expand the cuff and allow them fall around the outside of the boot, which is good when it rains - which it did.

These are the kind of pants that don't need thermals underneath (except if you're doing alpine riding in winter) thanks to a thick, padded inner lining. Thankfully the lining can be easily removed for warm-weather riding, via a zip around the waist and buttons in each leg.

Two deep zip-up side pockets provide enough room for wallet, phone, camera, hanky, and we even squeezed in a 375ml bottle of water – heaps of stuff really – and by and large I found them to be excellent enduro riding gear.

We rode Honda Varaderos during a South Australian trek and on both sealed roads and dirt they proved hardy and comfortable. Waterproof, dustproof and mudproof (the latter being handy when you drop a very heavy 'Dero in slush) the Dainese pants stood up to the rigors of long-distance touring and plenty of off-road action, and never got too smelly at the end of a long day's riding, which is always a good thing.

After a solid six days on and off the road, the Dainese D-Dry pants proved exceptionally capable, not to mention comfortable, in a range of different conditions.

The Dainese Maribor D-Dry pants feature the following:

  • Pants made from Tech fabric.
  • 100% waterproof & breathable D-Dry membrane.
  • Removable composite protectors in the knee/shins.
  • Elasticated inserts on the knees.
  • Removable micro-feather thermal lining.
  • Adjustable waist and leg end zip.
  • Waist zipper for attaching to Dainese jackets.

Price is $299 and the Dainese Maribor D-Dry pants are available in black, in mens Euro sizes 46 to 60 and womens Euro sizes 38-46.
