New product: AGV K-5 helmet

The third in the 'K' series from the Italian company, with the first units slated to arrive in Australia in April 2015

AGV has unveiled its latest helmet, the K-5, for sports and road use.

Made from carbon and glass fibres, the K-5 belongs to the 'AGV Extreme Standards' family. The structural components of the helmet were specifically designed to offer excellent performance standards while minimising dimensions and weight. The bottom lip of the helmet was specifically designed to reduce potential damage to the collarbone in the event of a fall.

The K-5, which weighs about 1390 grams, was designed using the Finite Element Method, which allows impacts and helmet resistance to be simulated before the moulds are actually made. AGV claims this method creates a light, compact helmet with improved energy absorption properties.
The Integrated Ventilation System features ducts that are hollowed into the shell for improved, more efficient air circulation inside the helmet. The K-5 also features three front intakes, two side and one central integrated in the shell profile, which provides a constant flow of fresh air inside the helmet.

Rear extractors with a new on/off system remove hot moist air. The design has been ‘wind tunnel tested’ to optimise ventilation.

The helmet has two outer and four inner shell sizes. The inner shells are made of foam from four different thicknesses to guarantee a perfect fit.

AGV claims "vision is now significantly wider than on a traditional helmet" thanks to the special shape of the bottom side edge of the aperture.

The helmet can fit two different visors depending on shell size, while it also has a new “easy-op” micro-opening system where you can open the visor in small amounts by using a button on the chin guard.

Visor removal is quick and easy without tools.

The K-5 has removable and washable Dri-Lex liners, which have been specially treated to prevent bacteria from forming.

Finally, there's a “Double-D” retention system, and the helmet is ready to host the AGV communication system that allows the rider and passenger to talk as well as use a mobile phone or navigation via Bluetooth.

The Australian distributor for AGV, Cassons, says that the K-5 should be available locally in about 4-6 weeks, in a variety of multi and solid colours. For more information, phone (02) 8882 1999 or email enquiries@cassons.com.au.
