New motorsport facility for Wyong

The proposed Casar Park Community Motorsport Facility – halfway between Sydney and Newcastle -- is gaining traction, with the local council one of the backers

A $25 million community and club-level motorsport facility on 115ha in Wyong (NSW) is edging closer to reality, which would not only cater for riding and driving enthusiasts but also take on a tourism and recreation focus once fully completed.

The Casar Park project co-founder Brad Wilson has already received offers of in-kind support from a number of businesses around the Wyong area keen to help make the project get off the ground. When completed, the facility is expected to generate significant employment and training opportunities over coming years.

"The Bushells Ridge site is very interesting topographically and provides some good rise and fall, which is really at the heart of any great motor racing circuit,” said Wilson.

“In that regard we believe the track is going to prove very popular when it is built.

"Having support from these local businesses is worth tens of thousands of dollars to our project and puts us within $30,000 of our fundraising target.

“With significant donations, sponsorship and in-kind support already in place, the CASAR Park team expect to kick off further studies in the next few months.”

The Wyong Shire has already given the project the green light, and stage one would involve construction of 14-turn 3.5km circuit, undercover pit garages and driver training facilities. Stage two will provide further infrastructure for tourism, training, recreation and leisure - a total investment of over $25 million.

Once completed, it's estimated CASAR Park will generate $17 million annually in economic benefit to the local economy.
