Ducati's new Monster 696 is promising a 9% lift in power to a healthy 80 horses @ 9000rpm, and an 11% lift in torque to 7.0kg-m @ 7750rpm, thanks in part to new design heads borrowed from the one-litre powerplants. That's punting a package that weighs a claimed 161 kilos.
Several other changes have been made for the new model, including the addition of what the company calls an APTC clutch which among other things offers a back-torque limiter to discourage wheel hop on the downshift.
The company is also pretty worked up about the adoption of gullwing fork clamps, which it says are borrowed from the race machinery and add the chassis rigidity.
Along the way you also pick up radial-mount brakes, Showa fork up front and Sachs suspension unit on the rear.
Pricing has yet to be announced and the bikes are expected in a few months' time.
