KTM has stamped its return to the world of full-size off-road electric motorcycles with the reveal of the 2025 Freeride E.
The latest Freeride E adds a host of upgrades for 2025, with the aim of enhancing the riding experience. With a peak power figure of 19.2 kW and over 37 Nm, KTM says riders can expect a top speed of 95 km/h. This new electric drivetrain is apparently quieter and cooler, allowing for near-silent operation.
The bike's design also strives for versatility, making it suitable for both seasoned riders and newcomers. It features three ride modes – ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT – along with adjustable energy recuperation settings. Advanced safety features, including a rollover sensor that cuts power in the event of a crash, are designed to further enhance rider confidence.
KTM's engineers have reworked the bike's chassis to improve handling and stability, increasing the wheelbase while keeping the overall weight under 112 kg. The chrome-molybdenum steel frame, paired with a lightweight aluminum and glass-fiber reinforced nylon subframe, is designed for a robust yet agile riding experience.
The Freeride E is powered by a 29kg lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 5.5 kWh, providing 20 per cent more riding time than its predecessor. With an estimated endurance of 2 to 3 hours under typical enduro conditions, the battery can be fully charged in 8 hours using a standard household outlet, or in just 4-5 hours to reach 80 per cent capacity.
Additionally, the bike's state-of-the-art WP Suspension system features adjustable components that allow for on-the-fly modifications, ensuring optimal performance across various terrains.
With road homologation, the 2025 Freeride E can act as a fully road-legal trailbike in overseas markets, although its unclear if it will meet Australia’s registration requirements.
Pricing for Australia is yet to be revealed, but the new machine is set to roll off the production line in December and should be available from April 2025. But KTM Australia says it will only be bringing in limited numbers.
