New KTM 390 Duke looming

Revised LAMS naked bike on sale next month for $7k

KTM's updated 390 Duke naked bike will hit the brand's dealer network next month (May), with the LAMS-approved single-cylinder machine priced at $6995 plus on-roads.

The revised model comes with a raft of updates, including a ride-by-wire throttle for more precise fuelling, a slipper clutch for smoother downshifts, a larger fuel tank (now 13.4 litres), revised rider and passenger seats and a side-mounted exhaust.

Add to that the LED lighting, a large 5.2-inch TFT display, a bolt-on sub-frame and adjustable hand levers, and the 2017 KTM 390 Duke represents a significant progression from the model first unveiled in Austria a few years ago.

The bike's single-cylinder, 372cc engine produces 43hp (32kW), while it rides on WP suspension and features a trellis frame – just like its big brother, the 1290 Super Duke, on which it's been styled.

The 390 Duke weighs in at a svelte 149 kilograms (dry), giving learner riders an eminently manageable but fun package that is just as at home in the city as it is on a winding mountain road.
