New frames for 2010 KTM range

And plenty of other bits and pieces

KTM has officially lifted the veil on its 2010 motocross
and enduro range, with all the bikes featuring a new steel frame but still no
sign of fuel injection.

All the 12 SX (motocross) and EXC
(enduro) bikes have the new frame, which has a steeper head to the tune
of 0.5 degrees. KTM claims the change will improve cornering and
promote better feeling from the front end.

There is also a new
triple clamp, which now has a fixed offset of 22mm instead of 20, which
was probably atop the wish list from most of the specialist dirtbike
press.

The higher offset, also available in EXC guise, should be
good for more flex and am improved fork action. The frame is also
welded to the steering head 10mm lower than 2009, which has lowered the
tank and seat position to optimise weight balance.

The SX range
also has revalved suspension settings –the PDS linkless system remains
on the rear – new fork seals and bushings, new front brake pads, new
air box and air filter, new Renthal “Diamand” hand grips and new
graphics.

The two-strokes also have a new exhaust bike, while
the 450 SX-F has revised low end carburettor settings, a new five-speed
transmission, and a reinforced piston for more durability.

The
EXCs also have revised suspension valving and a PDS set-up similar to
the 2009 SX bikes, a new front Brembo brake, lighter Excel rims to
reduce unsprung weight, the Renthal grips, a DID X-ring chain to
replace the Regina item, and a new single-wall exhaust pipe for all the
two-strokes.

The EXCs also get the new graphics.

KTM is
also steadfast about its continued use of  PDS, listing the claimed
benefits of the system over a conventional linkage set-up, including
that it’s easier to maintain and assemble, offers higher ground
clearance, it gives more side stability, it’s 1kg lighter than linkage,
and the production costs are cheaper.
