CFMoto will finally release two motorcycles in 2016 that have been on the burner for some time now: the 400NK naked and a 650cc adventure bike.
The 400NK, which was originally slated for an October 2015 release, will now make it Down Under by the second quarter of 2016. According to local CFMoto boss Michael Poynton, the 400NK is “a sleeved 650NK with styling in between the 150NK (pictured) and the 650NK”.
The engine will be a liquid-cooled, DOHC eight-valve parallel twin, with the 400NK joining a competitive space that also includes nakeds such as the KTM 390 Duke, Honda CB300 and Kawasaki Z300. BMW Motorrad will also be in the game soon with its G 310 R. And for something a little different there's the 399cc Ducati Scrambler Sixty2, which is going on sale in February 2016 for $11,990.
There's still no price on the 400NK, but we expect somewhere in the high $4K mark based on the current retail prices for the 150NK ($3090) and 650NK LAMS ($6290).
Meanwhile, the 650cc adventure bike's styling has purportedly been crafted by the Austrian-based Kiska Design, which has been associated with European juggernaut KTM since 1992. The single-cylinder 150NK is also the work of Kiska, with that model going on sale in January 2015.
The 650's functionality path is yet to be disseminated, with today's current crop of adventure fare orbiting in a larger area than ever before — from the basic plonk-long-travel-suspension-on-a-road-bike fare to heavy-duty players from the likes of BMW Motorrad, KTM and Triumph. And there's plenty in between, where companies like Suzuki reside. In the middleweight adventure stakes, Benelli is also preparing to enter the fray with a rugged-looking 500cc machine.
What route will CFMoto take? We will find out by December 2016 if all goes to plan...
