Side View Assist technology and anti-lock braking systems (ABS) targeted toward emerging markets were two of the more intriguing products German brand Bosch unveiled at the Milan Show last week.
Similar to the blind-spot alerts which have been fitted to cars for some time, Bosch’s new Side View Assist technology is a first for the two wheel world. The unit includes four sensors which monitor a five-metre radius and alerts the rider if a vehicle is travelling in its blind spot via an optical signal within the bike’s mirror.
As well as the Side View Assist technology, the firm unveiled the latest-generation ABS 10 system which is not only lighter and more compact than the current technology, it’s far more cost effective and aimed towards emerging markets. Designed specifically to suit small capacity motorcycles in emerging markets, the unit is suitable for bikes up to an including 250cc. The firm claims the ABS is 10 is 45 percent smaller and 30 percent lighter than the current setup.
Another cost-effective product on show was the latest Front Only ABS, which reduces both the complexity and the price of the electronic rider aid by putting the onus on the wheel that matters most in terms of reducing the risk of a crash.
The two updated ABSs are responding to the rapid motorcycle growth in emerging markets, many of which have already legislated mandatory ABS.
“We are bringing ABS technology to all vehicle classes and markets,” Bosch’s Dirk Hoheisel said.
