Motorex KTM team rider Todd Waters won his second straight round of the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals in Murray Bridge (SA) on April 28, despite a crash which saw him finish sixth in the opening 30-minute (plus a lap) moto.
The Queenslander won the day ahead of Billy Mackenzie (Yamaha), Jake Moss (Suzuki), Lawson Bopping (Suzuki) and Matt Moss (Suzuki), and he now leads the championship by 19pts over Mackenzie.
“I always enjoy Murray Bridge; every time I’ve raced here I’ve won the overall so it’s been good a good place for me,” said Waters. “I was quick in that first race but just made a couple of mistakes. I didn’t get the best start to the first moto but worked my way into the lead by lap two and had started to check out and pull a gap when I washed the front and fell.
“I was really disappointed when I came in because I knew the race was mine. I was a little cheesed off but I told myself I need to stop sooking about it and keep a clear mind, which I did and I won the next moto. I've learned I can switch it off when I have a bad finish, just put it off and go out there fresh.”
Ahead of round three in Wonthaggi (Vic) on May 5, Waters is on 141pts from Mackenzie (122), Bopping (109), Jake Moss (107) and Matt Moss (107).
In MX2, Luke Styke (Serco Yamaha) is the championship leader, while his teammate Luke Clout scored his first overall win in the class.
