Though I didn't sleep too well last night, the morning soon took a very positive turn when I found an interesting email from MV Agusta's head office. It reads: "Please find below the link from which you can download the video of the new MV AGUSTA F4 RR."
MV Agusta F4 RR? Upon further inspection it turns out the track-ready superbike has the 'Corsacorta' moniker tagged on.
Intrigued, I watched the video and it turns out the Italian marque has made a number of tweaks to the F4 design, including a novel take on the trademark quad exhaust pipes, which are now rectangular, not circular.
The MV Agusta F4 RR Corsacorta is expected to be released later in the year as a 2012 model, and will output an extra 18hp over the garden variety F4 model, raising peak power to 198hp (146kW). Take that Ducati!
You can check out the teaser video of the high performance superbike below, and MV Agusta promises that "Press information, specifications and images will be released next week."
The video shows plenty of high end componentry, Brembo, Ohlins TTX, and with a fettled engine this could be a very competitive exotic motorcycle.
The new F4 RR Corsacorta also adds weight to MV Agusta's departure from mediocrity. Since being sold by Harley-Davidson back to the Castiglioni family, the Italian motorcycle company appears to be getting its act together, with several new models nearing release.
The three-cylinder super sport F3 motorcycle and B3 Brutale naked bike -- both powered by the company's new three-cylinder 675cc engine -- are expected to lob in 2012 after unveilings at EICMA in Milan later this year, giving the company every chance of turning a profit in the mid-term future.
And with plenty of cash in the bank, the next logical step would be a return to top flight motor racing such as WSBK?
