Tesla CEO Elon Musk has poured cold water on the notion that his company will one day manufacture an electric motorcycle.
According to a report in Jalopnik, Musk said his company would never develop motorcycles because he almost died while riding one when he was 17.
During a company investor briefing, Musk said that he rode dirtbikes growing up in South Africa, and he also had a streetbike until he was 17, when he was almost hit by a truck and killed. That probably ended his collaboration with two-wheelers…
Of course, strategies and goal posts often shift when it comes to electric vehicle manufacturing, but at the moment the door is closed for two-wheelers.
While Tesla concentrates on its car business – the dual-motor all-wheel drive version of the Model 3 the current focus – Harley-Davidson continues to work on plans to release an electric motorcycle within 18 months.
