The 2019 Ducati Multistrada Enduro is the latest beneficiary of the firm’s 1262cc V-twin engine with Desmodromic Variable Timing (DVT), that with it and a host of other upgrades, is set to make the new Enduro the most technologically advanced version yet.
As a result of the extra cubes, the 2019 will have a boost in performance boasting 158jhp and 127Nm of torque, with 85 per cent of the peak torque being made available quite low in the rev range (before 3500rpm), which is a boon for its off-road intentions. Also aiding its off-road capabilities is the carry-over of a 19-inch front wheel (matched to a 17-inch rear) and its 30-litre fuel tank.
While the more road-biased versions of the Multistrada received the engine and electronics package for the 2018 model year, the off-road Enduro version missed out until now. As well as the top-shelf six-axis inertia measurement unit which will actuate the cornering ABS, lean-angle sensitive eight-level traction control system and the bike’s semi-active suspension package, there’s cruise control, wheelie control, hill-start control, a multi-directional quickshifter as well as the bike’s four switchable riding modes of Sport, Touring Urban and Enduro.
The inevitable upgrade also brings some tweaks to the bike’s chassis, starting with a 500-gram weight loss to the swingarm and a slightly shorter wheelbase, which now measures 1592mm compared to the current bike’s 1594mm. Suspension travel has been reduced, too, from 200mm at both ends to 185mm.
As far as the cockpit and ergonomics go, there’s the obligatory full-colour TFT dash, an LED lighting package which includes cornering lights, and the latest in multimedia connectivity.
Available in either Sand or Red colour schemes, the bike will make its public debut at next month’s EICMA show in Milan before arriving in dealership in the first quarter of 2019.
