Karl Muggeridge will compete in the 2009 Superbike World Championship on a Suzuki.
The Swiss-based Gold Coaster will ride the all-new GSX-R1000K9 for the Rome-based Celani team, which has fielded Australians Mark Aitchison and Chris Seaton in the last two Superstock 1000 FIM Cups.
Celani will receive support from Alstare Suzuki for its championship assault, although Muggeridge's bike won't be a factory machine like Max Neukirchner's or Yukio Kagayama's. Instead, Alstare will build him a machine entirely in-house.
Muggeridge, who is preparing to become a father for the second time, was the 2004 world Supersport champion before moving to Superbike, first on a Ten Kate Honda before moving into the privateer ranks.
It's been an underwhelming few years for Muggeridge, although a new bike and surrounds may see him become regular top 10 finisher again.
Muggeridge will be joined by compatriots Troy Corser (BMW) and Broc Parkes (Kawasaki) in world Superbike next year.
