Mugen makes a Mission statement

Mugen Motorsports has announced another tilt at the Isle of Man TT Zero Challenge, but this time using an electric system provided by Mission Motors

Japanese-based high-performance house Mugen Motors will compete at the 2014 Isle of Man TT Zero Challenge – the event’s electric bike race -- with an all-new challenger it’s calling the ‘Shinden san’.

However, this time Mugen’s machine will feature a drive system by San Francisco-based multi-platform company Mission Motors – a 100kW (134hp) and 220Nm electric motor with a 370V lithium battery pack.

The new oil-cooled three-phase brushless motor is lighter and smaller than the previous version. Mugen has taken the opportunity afforded by this new layout to increase the battery capacity over the 2013 machine, and installed new control systems. Shinden also has revised the suspension.

The wheelbase is 1485mm, and there’s twin-spar frame. Total weight of the machine is 240kg.

Isle of Man hero John McGuinness will be returning with Mugen, and this year will be joined by New Zealander Bruce Anstey, himself a nine-time TT winner. With initial integration work now completed, on-track testing has now begun.
