MPs and Senators Motorcycle Ride

The second event has just been held in Canberra, designed to raise the profile of motorcycling among members of parliament and the mainstream media

A number of parliamentarians took part in the second 2nd MPs and Senators Motorcycle Ride in Canberra on September 19, organised by the Australian Motorcycle Council (AMC).

Among the pollies to show their two-wheel allegiances included Bronwyn Bishop, Cory Bernardi, Bernie Ripoll, Luke Hartsuyker, David Hawker – chair of the new Victorian Motorcycle Advisory Group -- and Julie Owens.

Bishop hitched a ride as a pillion behind AMC chairman Shaun Lennard. In all, a column of about 30 bikes made its way through the street of Canberra during the short ride.

The purpose of the ride, which was followed by a private morning tea in Parliament House today, was to raise the profile of motorcycling among members of Parliament and the mainstream media.

Former Liberal opposition leader Brendan Nelson, now an ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg, was heavily involved in the first MPs and Senators Motorcycle Ride.
