The latest edition of BMW Motorrad Australia's popular GS Safari was held over September 16-21, with some 170 GS models and their owners and pillions tackling a picturesque route that zig-zagged along a portion of the Great Dividing Range.
Kicking off in Ballina on NSW's Far North Coast, the rolling cavalcade took in a variety of challenging routes both on the tar and on the dirt, with optional harder sections and a 'GS Challenge' -- that saw riders tackle nine special skills tests at the Port Macquarie motocross track -- thrown in for good measure.
Riders enjoyed the safety net of full factory support every step of the way, and plenty of laughs and stories were shared at each night's stop. The participants represented a broad spectrum of ages and backgrounds, too, the youngest being a 19-year-old girl who was riding with her father, the oldest being a 72-year-old man riding with his son-in-law.
The General Manager of BMW Motorrad, Australia and New Zealand, Tony Sesto, said the event was yet another resounding GS Safari success. "Magnificent scenery from behind the 'bars of a BMW GS motorcycle and far from the normal day to day work schedule; the BMW GS Safari is a brilliant event that every GS rider should do at least once -- or every time, as indeed some do," he said.
