How's this for inciting more anger amongst the motorcycling fraternity: a columnist from the UK's Daily Mirror has labelled motorcyclists "pathetic" and singled out middle-aged men who have an "immature obsession with speed."
The furore sparked by Paul Routledge's comments in the British tabloid newspaper has spread beyond the UK's borders, but there have been some vocal commentators agreeing with Routledge's opinion.
He wrote the article after a number of motorcycle fatalities in his local area during particularly sunny fortnight in the UK.
Here's part of the column from the Daily Mirror:
Time for old bikers to hang up their leathers
The hot weather last weekend brought out the motorbiking fraternity. Three died in North Yorks and one in South Yorks. That's just the ones I know about from my local paper. There will have been many more round the country.
Far too many bikers are middle-aged (and older) men pretending they are cool kids.
It would be pathetic if it weren't so lethal – not just for themselves but for the public. Why don't they just grow up and realise that the roar of a 600cc bike is the whisper of death?
Posters on lampposts urge motorists to “Think Bike!”
Bikers would be better advised: “Think about other people, instead of your immature obsession with speed.”
Does Routledge make a valid point or do you think he is tarring too many motorcyclists with the same brush? Use the link below to send us your thoughts on the topic.
