Public hearings will be held in the Victorian cities of Wangaratta and Wodonga in late November, to hear about the Victorian parliament’s current inquiry into motorcycle safety.
The inquiry has 11 terms of reference, including:
New initiatives to reduce motorcycle crashes and injuries;
Countermeasures to reduce the number and severity of motorcycle accidents;
The changing face of motorcycling, including the uptake of motorcycles as an alternative form of transport;
The attitude of motorcycle riders; and
Ways in which government and non-government sectors can work together to achieve motorcycle safety outcomes.
The inquiry has been in progress for some time now, and following this year’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix a number of individuals and organisations made submissions, including the Victorian Police which called for compulsory front identification on bikes. The hearing details are as follows:
