Ford has filed a new patent for a new technology which detects motorcycle filtering, according to a report in drivespark.com.
The system uses a set of cameras and sensors for detection of motorcycles between lanes. The system calculates the speed of the motorcycle and automatically stops the car from changing lanes via an auto pilot system.
The technology apparently works for both standard and autonomous cars.
Of course, a patent is no guarantee of eventual production, but Ford does appear to be onto something.
Lane filtering is now legal in Queensland, Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. There are no specific laws relating to lane filtering in the Northern Territory and, while it’s technically not illegal in Western Australia, doing so might break a number of local laws.
