Motoracing: Adams defeats Maddison in X-Fighters

Clinches the freestyle title in London finale

American Nate Adams has scored a well-earned victory in the 2009 Red Bull X-Fighters title, ahead of Australian Robbie Maddison and Japan's Eigo Sato.

Adams, 25, flew to victory in front of 18,000 fans at the fifth and final stop at the Battersea Power Station in London on August 22, snuffing out the title ambitions of Maddo, Sato and defending champion Mat Rebeaud.

Rebeaud was eliminated in the quarter-finals after a heavy fall when he over-rotated a 'superbkicker', with Sato also bowing out at the same juncture.

Maddo was then eliminated by Adams in the semi-finals.

"This is the greatest achievement of my career. Whoever wins this Tour goes down in the history books," said Adams.

"The pressure was huge; it's a great feeling to win against the best riders in the world."

Adams defeated 17-year-old New Zealand rookie sensation Levi "Rubber Kid" Sherwood in the London X-Fighters final, with Spaniard Dany Torres third from Maddo and American Jeremy Stenberg.
