Honda Australia's local road racing and motocross endeavours will take on a decidedly new feel in 2018 with news that its long-time racing partner – the Melbourne-based Motologic motorcycle performance tuning business run by Paul and Laura Free – is closing its doors at the end of 2017.
Motologic has been synonymous with Honda's official road racing team – apart from a brief flirtation with Ducati – over the last 15 years, with multiple Australian and national-level superbike and supersport title victories with the likes of Josh Brookes, Adam Fergusson, Glenn Allerton, Jamie Stauffer, Wayne Maxwell and Troy Herfoss. In 2004, Brookes also won the Phillip Island round of the Supersport World Championship as a wildcard.
In 2015, Motologic has also took Honda's motocross and supercross racing activities under its wing.
“In the time I have run Honda’s factory team we have enjoyed huge success. I am really proud of what we have achieved; we have won so many championships along the way with the various riders and machines,” said Paul.
“I have worked with some amazing people over the years and it is these people that have really contributed to our success. To name a few: Laura, who has always been there through thick and thin, and Glyn Griffiths and Tony Hinton at Honda who have been there since my initial job interview in 2002."
Although Motologic is closing at the end of 2017, the team is still 100 per cent committed to the balance of the 2017 Australian Superbike Championship as well as the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship. With two rounds remaining in the superbike title, Herfoss is just 5pts behind the Yamaha-backed Maxwell.
“Our determination to succeed is unwavering and is fuelled by the invaluable support of our sponsors and team supporters," continued Paul. "Thanks must go out to our current and past sponsors and supporters of which there are way too many to list. None of our successes would have been possible without your help."
Motologic will leave the racing scene with Honda Australia's blessing.
“It has been a privilege to work with Paul for the last 15 years, his hard work and dedication to the team and to racing are second to none and we can’t thank him enough for everything he has done for Honda’s factory effort here in Australia,” Said Glyn Griffiths, Brand and Motorsports Manager, Motorcycles Division at Honda Australia.
“His loyalty to the brand is commendable and the many successes Honda has had over the years in racing are a testament to Paul and his staff, their work ethic and drive to win."
