The COVID-19 crisis means they can’t race for real, so some of MotoGP’s biggest stars will hit the virtual track. Utilising the official MotoGP 19 videogame, competitors will take on a digital rendering of Mugello for six virtual laps, preceded by a five-minute qualifying session.
Fans will be able to watch the action which will be broadcast on Sunday March 29 at 15:00 (GMT+2), which is March 30 at 2:00am for Australians. The event will be shown on motogp.com and esport.motogp.com, as well as selected TV broadcasters and all social media platforms.
Television broadcasters include Sky Italy, Canal+ (France), Dazn (Spain), BT Sports (UK), Servus (Austria and Germany), Eurosport (Netherlands), OTE (Greece), Swiss TV, Viasat (Sweden), Pop (Slovenia), Sport TV (Portugal), Sport5 Israel, Sportklub (Serbia), MTV Finland, NBC (USA) and ESPN (Latin America). There is no word on an Australian broadcast, so fans will have to use online methods and social media.
The line-up is star-studded with seven teams represented. The rider list includes:
Repsol Honda Team: Marc Marquez, Alex Marquez
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP: Maverick Viñales
Aprilia Racing Team Gresini: Aleix Espargaro
Team Suzuki Ecstar: Alex Rins, Joan Mir
Petronas Yamaha SRT: Fabio Quartararo
Red Bull KTM Tech 3: Iker Lecuona, Miguel Oliveira
