Italian MotoGP rider, Andrea Iannone, has been suspended from racing for eighteen months following a positive drug test.
The FIM International Disciplinary Court (CDI) handed down the decision on March 31, with the ban backdated to December 17, 2019.
Following a routine in-competition doping test at Sepang on November 3, 2019, Iannoe tested positive for a WADA-prohibited substance in the anabolic steroid category.
Iannone was provisionally suspended following the positive test and, with the CDI decision, is also disqualified from Round 18 of the 2019 MotoGP World Championship.
An appeal against the CDI decision can be lodged with the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) within 21 days of the decision.
The Aprilia rider blames contaminated food for the positive test and took to social media to express his sadness, and also his appreciation of the support from his family, team, sponsors and supporters.
The 2020 MotoGP season is currently on hold due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
