MotoGP on updated anti-siphoning list

On the same status level as the F1 GP and the Bathurst 1000 touring car classic until 2015

The local round of the MotoGP world road racing championship will continue to be screened on free-to-air television until at least 2015, the federal government has announced.

The event is included on the updated anti-siphoning list announced by the government on November 25, which ensures that “access to events of national importance and cultural significance continue to be available to all Australians via free-to-air television”.

In the list which takes effect on January 1 next year, the local MotoGP round is included alongside the equivalent F1 race at Albert Park and the iconic Bathurst 1000 touring car classic, as well horse racing, AFL, NRL, rugby union, cricket, soccer and tennis events.

The list is for rights to events acquired between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2015.
