The MotoGP class has been cancelled for the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix, due to travel restrictions affecting passengers from Italy. FIM, ITRA and Dorna issued a statement announcing all premier class sessions will not go ahead as a result of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
New travel restrictions in Qatar require all passengers from Italy, among other countries, to be taken into mandatory quarantine for a minimum of 14 days. Due to Italy’s significant role in the championship and the MotoGP class, the decision was made to cancel premier class competition.
Moto2 and Moto3 are set to go ahead, as teams are already in Qatar for a three-day test at the Losail International Circuit. Both classes will compete but there will be a revised schedule.
The coronavirus outbreak, which originated in China, has caused significant disruptions to travel and major events around the world.
The Grand Prix of Qatar is set to take place at Losail from March 6-8.
