motoDNA hits Phillip Island MotoGP
The motorcycle academy's junior program hit the big time during the 2012 Australian Motorcycle Grand PrixmotoDNA’s junior road racer program got into full swing at the 2012 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in Phillip Island last month, with a group of local riders taking part in a MotoGP team networking event.
The juniors spent a couple of days with motoDNA director Mark McVeigh networking with top teams in their pit garages. The young riders, Troy Guenther, Nic Limington, Tayla Relph and Lawson Walters, were selected to take part based on their recent participation at the 2013 Red Bull rookie tryout event held at the Monteblanco circuit in Spain. MotoGP teams that took part in the program included:
- Yamaha Factory MotoGP
- Ducati Factory MotoGP
- LCR MotoGP
- Marc VDS Moto 2
- JIR Moto 2
- Mahindra Moto 3
Guenther, 14, is a new Johan Zarco fan after the French Moto 2 star spent over an hour speaking with the juniors about the pathway to Grand Prix racing. Troy said: “I really enjoyed getting to meet the teams and riders, learning how the bikes work and understanding how they prepare physically and mentally for races.”
McVeigh said: “We are happy to be able to give something back to a sport which, as our name suggests, is in our DNA. We have the ideal people in our team such as former grand prix riders Kevin Magee and Mark Willis who are motoDNA coaches and mentors for these young kids, and between us all we have an extensive network of motorcycle road racing contacts throughout MotoGP. These junior events are the building blocks to our foundation, which we will launch next year.”
