Ten-time women’s moto trials world champion, Laia Sanz, will be the official instructor at a training camp to be held at Pacific Park, Sydney from July 16-18.
It will be the first time the FIM has conducted a moto trials training and development camp in Australia.
“I’m very excited to come to Australia and I’m looking forward working with the riders,” Sanz said.
“I know some of the girls from the Trials des Nations last year so it will be nice to come out and see them again and hopefully teach them things.
“I think it’s a lot more difficult for Australian riders to compete because all the best riders in the world race in Europe, so when they come over it’s a big challenge. That’s why this camp is so important to help the riders.
“While three days isn’t a long time, I can help teach them a lot of things and different techniques that they can practice after the training camp.”
Each participant will supply their own bike and must have a 2011 National, European (UEM) or FIM Women’s Trial license. Each participant must also have valid insurance in case of injuries (included in the license or not).
The purpose of the camp is to improve the standard of female moto trials competition and prepare riders to participate in national,European or FIM world championships.

Laia won her first world moto trials title as a 15-year-old in 2000. Since then she’s parlayed herself into the Heather McKay of moto trials, and at 25 still holds the world championship while dabbling in other disciplines of motorcycle racing, including enduro and safari.
It’s now been a huge couple of months for moto trials in Australia, following on from the announcment that Australia is on the provisional calendar to host a round of the men’s world championship in 2012. Final confirmation will come later this year.
