Moto Guzzi’s all-new V85TT – the TT part as in Tutto Terreno, or all-terrain – retro-inspired adventure bike is now on sale in Australia, powered by an a new 853cc 90-degree longitudinal V-twin engine.
The machine from Italy’s oldest motorcycle manufacturer will be sold in two liveries:
• Grigio Atacama single colour for $18,890 plus on-road costs; and
• Giallo Sahara tri-colour for $19,590 plus on-road costs.
The V85 TT has wire-spoked wheels, Brembo brakes, a tubular steel trellis frame, and the semi-dry sump, air-cooled two-valve engine is good for a claimed 80hp at 7750rpm and 80Nm at 5000rpm – and has much lighter internals than previous Moto Guzzi small-block engines to reduce inertia.
The engine is derived from the V9 powerplant – but apart from architecture and bore and stroke dimensions, that’s where the similarities end. Moto Guzzi plans to use the V85TT engine on a number of other models, with a road bike already in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, the Kayaba monoshock connects the chassis directly to the swingarm on the V85TT, and at the front is a 41mm fork.
There’s also plenty of sump protection, a high-mounted front guard, as well as an asymmetric swingarm which houses the drive shaft. The V85TT has TFT instrumentation and an LED daytime running light. Handguards, a windshield and small rear rack complete the very well finished look.
Bikesales will be riding the V85TT this week in Thailand, followed by a full report on a machine which certainly has unique styling and potentially all the attributes to fill a number of roles: touring, commuting, scratching and light off-road.
