Moss wins Aussie MX title
The Suzuki-backed New South Welshman has won the premier M1 class in the 2013 Australian Motocross Championship, snapping Yamaha's recent dominationSuzuki rider Matt Moss has won the 2013 Australian Motocross Championship, his first in the premier MX1 class. The final round was held at Coolum on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on Sunday, September 1.
Moss, 25, has added the MX1 title to his 2009 and 2011 MX2 championships, in what was his return to Australia with Suzuki after spending 2012 in America.
At Coolum, Moss qualified second and won the opening 30-minute moto of the weekend in convincing fashion, before a calculated ninth in moto two sealed the RM-Z450's first MX1 title since 2005 when Daryl Hurley achieved the feat.
"I feel really good," Moss beamed. "I'd just like to thank Motul Pirelli Suzuki, Jay Foreman and the Foreman family. It's such a loving family and we get on so well.
"I'm a happy guy at the moment, as we've had such a great year. It was a little bit out of reach at the start, but Jay Foreman turned me around and said, ‘You can win this', and we've done exactly that."
Moss finished third overall in the final round, but it was more than enough to clinch the championship with 16pts (643 to 627) to spare over KTM’s Todd Waters, with Billy Mackenzie (Yamaha, 583) third. Cody Cooper (Suzuki, 535) and Kirk Gibbs (528) saw out the top five.

In the penultimate round last week, Yamaha’s Luke Styke took home the MX2 title.
