Moss wins at Broadford

The reigning title holder got the jump in the opening round of the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals, and leads the championship from Adam Monea and Kirk Gibbs

Matt Moss (Team Motul Suzuki) has claimed the overall win at the opening round of the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals in Broadford (Vic) today.

Moss (pictured) finished second, first and third in his three races to finish just ahead of NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Adam Monea (1-4-2) and Motorex KTM’s Kirk Gibbs (3-3-5).

DPH Motorsport Yamaha Racing pilot Kade Mosig (5-5-7) and CDR Yamaha’s Billy Mackenzie (4-12-4) rounded out the top five overall placings.

“It was just one of those days where nothing really felt the best and we still came away with the win so it was a great start and only being two weeks since I have been back doing motocross, I feel really good," said Moss.

“The bike’s great and we are really looking forward to Appin the local round the following weekend - I just want to get out there and ride to my full potential.”

One of the championship top guns, Honda's Cody Cooper, suffered a fractured eye socket and cheekbone after crashing during practice.

In MX2, New Zealander Kayne Lamont (Husqvarna) took the honours ahead of KTM duo Brendan Harrison and Hamish Harwood, and in the MXD class it was Yamaha rider Jed Beaton who came up trumps.
