Moss goes back-to-back

A second consecutive MX Nationals crown for the Suzuki rider, who wrapped up the premier MX1 title in Queensland ahead of Kirk Gibbs and Billy Mackenzie

Suzuki rider Matt Moss (pictured) is the Australian motocross champions for the second year in a row, his 5-6-8 results at the final round in Coolum (Qld) on August 31 more than enough to hold off closest challenger Kirk Gibbs (KTM).

Moss completed the 10 rounds on 789pts, with Gibbs on 776. Yamaha's Billy Mackenzie, who  won the overall at Coolum, was third in the MX1 title on 734pts.

“It's sweet – Jay Marmont said at the start of the year that it's hard to defend your championship and it was a tough fight,” Moss said. “It was a great year – solid.

“Before I put my hands out to take the championship, I have to give a shout out to Gibbsy (Kirk Gibbs). He rode awesome this year, I am very proud of him, and I am sure that he will be a lot stronger next year.”

The MX2 title was won by Luke Clout (Yamaha), and the MXD class went to Egan Mastin (Husqvarna).
