CDR Yamaha’s Kade Mosig produced a classy display of riding to claim the overall in an eventful round seven of the 20915 MX Nationals in Shepparton on July 19.
While Mosig took the MX1 honours, defending champion Matt Moss (Suzuki) was transferred to hospital after he came into contact with an "undirected piece of machinery" that had ventured onto the track during the Superpole session.
Moss collided with the vehicle just after a big a jump, and was immediately attended to by the Racesafe Medical Team before going to hospital. His injuries are not life threatening and we will update you on his condition as soon as we hear more.
Racing eventually got underway on one of the most technical tracks on the calendar, with Mosig winning the opening moto from KTM duo Luke Styke and Kirk Gibbs, and in the second the battle of the day was fought out between Adam Monea (Kawasaki) and Yamaha's Dan Reardon in the fight for first position.
The lead changed six times, with Monea the eventual winner, with Mosig in third — and with it the day's overall.
“I couldn’t be happier,” Mosig said on the podium. “The last few rounds have been up and down and it had really affected our results so today the focus was on limiting the mistakes and getting the best result possible out of each race.
“It was a tough track today as the ruts were long and deep with plenty of soft spots in them so you had to be patient and not over ride it. The CDR Yamaha team had the bike working great and it’s good to get back up here on the box and put this team up where it belongs."
Mosig collected 65pts in Shepparton, from Monea (60), Gibbs (58), Styke (57) and Reardon (54).
That meant Gibbs extended his championship lead over Styke by just 1pt, with the buffer now standing at 53pts (471 to 408) with three rounds remaining. Mosig (397) has moved into third ahead of Monea (394).
KTM's Caleb Ward came out on top in MX2, but Jay Wilson (Yamaha) still leads the title from fellow Yamaha rider Luke Clout . In the MXD class, KTM's Jayden Rykers won, and Wilson Todd (Yamaha) leads the championship.
