A massive crowd of 51,509 fans filled Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on April 2 to catch yet another wild round of the 2011 AMA Supercross Championship, with Australia Chad Reed (Honda) again a central part of the drama.
While Trey Canard (Honda) was an impressive winner with an irresistible wire-to-wire performance, Reed and Stewart came together on lap eight when Stewart lost control of his Yamaha through the whoops, ultimately running into his rival and taking both riders off the track.
Stewart, who apparently has a fascination with police lights, would remount in fifth, eventually finishing fourth, while Reed dropped to eighth – his finishing position.
“That was a tough night tonight, but we can’t dwell on what might have been. We have to move forward,” Reed said. “I am pretty sore and cut up from the foot peg and I am now 6pts behind Ryan (Villopoto) in the championship but it could have been a lot worse. Two races ago I was 29pts behind.
“We have four races to go and 100pts up for grabs. I need to stay on my A-game and keep focused on the big picture.”
Behind Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki, 255pts) and Reed (249), defending champion Ryan Dungey (Suzuki, 248), Canard (239) and Stewart (234) complete the top five.
Villopoto and Dungey completed the podium in Arlington, while Australia’s Michael Byrne (Suzuki) was 14th.
There are just four rounds of the championship remaining, and St Louis’ Edward Jones Dome will host the next instalment on Saturday, April 9.
