Monea claims victory in countback

It was a three-way tie at the top in today's round of the 2014 Australian Motocross Championship, but the Kawasaki rider won on a countback

Kawasaki rider Adam Monea put in a consistent effort to claim overall honours in the MX1 class at round three of the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals in Wonthaggi (Vic) on Sunday, April 27.

Monea, Matt Moss (Suzuki) and Kirk Gibbs (KTM), all finished on 60pts, but on a countback Monea was declared the overall winner after his two third places, ahead of Moss (2-4) and Gibbs (1-6). Billy Mackenzie (Yamaha) won race two.

In the championship standings, Moss increased his lead to 22 points over Gibbs, with Monea a further 14 points behind in third. Jake Moss (Kawasaki) and Mackenzie see out the top five.

In MX2, New Zealander Kayne Lamont (Husqvarna) had a great day, proving that his opening round victory in Broadford was no fluke. He registered second and first places to finish with the overall ahead of championship Luke Clout (Yamaha) and Hamish Harwood (KTM).

Jack Simpson (KTM) was the Pirelli MXD class winner.
