Canny South Australians Mark Mitchell and Tom Golding were crowned the 2009 Australian Sidecar champions following a massive weekend of racing at Mildura's Olympic Park Speedway on Sunday night.
In the final, Mitchell/Golding led from start to finish to claim the spoils from defending champions Darrin Treloar/Mark Plaisted and Rick Howse/Adam Commons. The fourth team, Scott Christopher/Trent Koppe, was excluded.
It was the first time a South Australian pairing had won the national title in over 30 years.
Mitchell paid particular tribute to his father, Bill, who with Darrin Treloar's father, Gary, had won the Australian Best Pairs Championship at the Sydney Showground in 1976.
Earlier in the evening, Mitchell/Golding qualified first for the final on a countback from Treloar/Plaisted and Howse/Commons, with Christopher/Koppe booking a berth in the final through the repecharge.
