Yamaha-riding Victorian Daniel Milner has continued his sublime local form on the international stage by finishing second outright behind Frenchman Antoine Meo (KTM) in the 2013 International Six-Day Enduro in Sardinia, Italy.
Milner finished less than two minutes behind Meo in the overall standings, as well as winning the E2 class. Meo was victorious in E3, the E1 champion was Cristobal Guerrero (KTM), while Australia’s Jessica Gardiner (Sherco) won the women’s class by over three minutes.
In the teams’ classifications, Australia (Milner, Glenn Kearney, Chris Hollis, Josh Strang, Josh Green and Matt Phillips) was fourth in the Senior Trophy, sixth in the Junior Trophy (Lachlan Stanford, Ben Burrell, Scott Keegan and Tom McCormack), and won the Women’s Trophy (Gardiner, Jemma Wilson and Tayla Jones).
France won both the Senior and Junior Trophies.
Milner was delighted with his performance.
“If someone had of offered me a class win and second outright before we started, I would gladly have taken it as my goals weren’t as high as that and I’m pumped to be able to get that result while racing the best guys in the world,” said Milner.
“It would have been great to take the outright win but I can’t be too disappointed as I did the best I could all week and that’s all I could do.
“This has been such a massive effort and there are so many people to thank. My family and friends for all their support during the event, Craig Dack and the entire CDR Yamaha team in Australia as well as Yamaha Australia and all the other riders and teams here that are representing Australia for making it such a great event.”
Other Aussies to finish in the top 10 of their respective classes were Hollis (KTM), who was fourth in E3, Strang (Suzuki), seventh in E2, and the two women: Wilson (Yamaha), third, and Jones (KTM) fourth.
