Daniel Milner (Yamaha) made a triumphant return to racing in rounds seven and eight of the 2014 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) at Coonawarra (SA) on the weekend of June 21-22.
Milner broke his ankle in a training incident and was forced to miss the previous two rounds, but he was able to get back on the bike in the week leading up to the Coonawarra event.
Hoping to just get through the event unscathed, Milner did far more than that and cleaned up both rounds to record impressive wins. He now sits fourth outright on 133 points behind KTM’s Toby Price (163), Husqvarna’s Glenn Kearney (152) and Yamaha’s Josh Green (150).
Meanwhile, Kearney leads the E3 class, Price holds the upperhand in E2, and Yamaha’s Tom McCormack left South Australia with a solid hold on E1 proceedings.
“I didn’t have high expectations coming into the weekend as I hadn’t been on the bike long so to come away with the win on both days was pretty cool,” Milner said. “I really missed racing and riding over the past six weeks and I put a lot of time and energy into my rehab to get back on the bike as fast as I could so I’m glad that work has paid off.
“My ankle is a bit sore now so I will continue the rehab on it and hopefully it should be back to 100 per cent at the next round.”
Price, Kearney and Green filled positions 2-4 in both rounds, while Geoff Braico (Husaberg) and Chris Hollis (Yamaha) shared fifth places.
Rounds nine and 10 of the championship will be held at Kyogle on July 19-20.
