The open secret is out: Jack Miller will be a Ducati MotoGP rider in 2018, partnering Danilo Petrucci at the Italian Octo Pramac squad.
The Queenslander will be directly contracted to Ducati, replicating the arragement he's had with the Honda factory over the last three years.
Octo Pramac Racing announced Miller's signing overnight, with the Aussie to replace Briton Scott Redding in the Ducati satellite squad. It's now expected that Redding will sign with Marc VDS Honda, Miller's current team.
The media release from Octo Pramac Racing didn't go into specifics, but Miller is likely to be riding a 2017-spec Desmosedici next year, while Petrucci will be on a 2018 machine.
Miller's move from Honda to Ducati is reminiscent of Casey Stoner, who kickstarted his MotoGP career on a factory satellite Honda before switching to Ducati – the only difference is that he slotted straight into the factory team.
Miller should ride the Desmosedici for the first time in the post-season test at Valencia in late November, but his immediate concerns will be to finsih his tenure with Honda on a positive note.
Eight races remain, starting with this weekend's round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The Michelin Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island will be held from October 20-22.
