Michelin unveiled a new adventure-touring tyre at the recent EICMA motorcycle expo in Milan, Italy, with the new Michelin Anakee Adventure set to go on sale in January 2019.
The tyre has been type approved for fitment to the new BMW R 1250 GS, the latest iteration of the Germany marque's top-selling big-bore adventure tourer.
Michelin says the newcomer slots into its lineup between its Road 5 Trail (100 per cent road use) and Anakee Wild (50/50 road/off-road use).
The Michelin Anakee Adventure, meanwhile, has been developed with an application split of 80/20 road/off-road use, allowing the tyre manufacturer to cater to an even wider spectrum of riders' needs.
Michelin says the new hoops deliver exceptional wet-weather grip and superb dry-weather stability and wear, thanks to their new silica compound and to two patented Michelin dual-compound technologies, while a new open tread pattern is said to enhance off-road traction.
"Our partnership with BMW Motorrad dates back to 2005 when we initially equipped the iconic BMW GS series," said Matthew Ye, Senior Vice President Worldwide, Michelin 2Wheel Business Line.
"The new Michelin Anakee Adventure is designed to address the needs of those BMW Motorrad customers who essentially use their adventure bike on ordinary roads but who occasionally like to indulge in a little off-roading."
The new Michelin Anakee Adventure will be commercially available in Australia from 2019.
