Metcher wins European 600 title

Scored seven podiums in 10 races in the close-to-production spec class, proving the benefits of fast, consistent racing
Australian Jed Metcher secured his first European Superstock 600 title at Portimao in Portugal on October 16, in what was the 10th and final round of the season.
Metcher snatched the title with 150pts on his Yamaha YZF-R6, 12 ahead of Joshua Day (Kawasaki ZX-6R)) in second place and Michael van der Mark (Honda CBR600R) in third.
Metcher took the lead in the standings at the Nurburgring’s round seven and defended this position right up to the grand finale where a fourth place finish was sufficient to comfortably claim the title.
The Australian scored seven podiums during the year.
"I need to thank my MTM-RT Motorsports team for all their hard work and say that our goal from last year's win at Magny-Cours was to win the championship through fast, smart and consistent racing,” said Metcher. “I aim to move to (world) Supersport for 2012 but am still looking at my options. I'd like to thank all of my sponsors, my family and Gary Morrison, my supporter in Australia."
