South Australian Brett Metcalfe has pulled off a coup in America, managing to snare the second seat on the factory Suzuki supercross team for 2011 alongside Ryan Dungey.
With the professional racing scene in America still bogged down in a deep malaise, Metcalfe’s signing is a clear vindication of his brilliant form in 2010, which included a second place behind Dungey in the AMA motocross title.
Metcalfe will race the fuel-injected RM-Z450 in the 2011 supercross title.
“I'm really excited to be joining the team," said Metcalfe. “There’s no doubt that the RM-Z450 is a race-winning machine and I can't wait to start testing.
“I think that the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team will be a good place for me to really focus on putting together a solid 2011. I'm looking forward to working with (new team manager) Mike (Webb), (new team advisor) Ricky (Carmichael) and Ryan (Dungey) and I'm ready to start racing."
Dungey and Metcalfe will soon start testing the new 2011 RM-Z450 in preparation for the start of the AMA supercross title (which also doubles as the world championship) in California on January 8.
