Merriman powers to early A4DE lead

Ahead of arch-rival Toby Price

Yamaha's Stefan Merriman has bolted from the blocks at the 32nd annual Australian Four-Day Enduro (A4DE) in Portland (NSW), and leads his main adversary Toby Price (KTM) by 13 seconds after day one.

"It's been a great start to the A4DE," said Merriman, who is racing in the event for the first time since 2007. "I had Toby pushing me all the way today and keeping me honest.

"I really enjoyed the tests, they are world class. Conditions are ideal after rain pre-event. Hopefully I can keep it rolling and win this four-day."

Last year's A4DE champion Jarrod Bewley (Yamaha) is third outright after day one, and also leads the E1 class from Matthew Phillips (Honda) and Ben Burrell (Yamaha).

In E2, Merriman and Price are being followed by Rory Mead (Yamaha), and the E3 top three are Ben Grabham (KTM), Geoff Bracio (Husaberg) and Mitch Harper (KTM).
