Melbourne's first Ride to Work breakfast will be held on Monday, March 16 at the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, Victorian Roads Minister Luke Donnellan, Greg Pond from the Victorian Scooter Riders Association and Father Bob McGuire will address the assembled riders and media from 8:00am.
The breakfast has three main goals:
1.
To promote protective clothing and safe riding to motorcycle and scooter riders coming to the city and inner suburbs for work or recreation;
2.
To inform riders of the three options for motorcycle parking in Victorian urban areas and how to park bikes for everyone's benefit; and
3.
To make car drivers aware of the benefits they gain from safe commuters on motorcycles and scooters. Bike commuters reduce traffic congestion and pollution and they free up car parking space for people who have to use their cars.
Victoria's Transport Accident Commission is a sponsor of the breakfast, and will donate a gold coin to Father Bob for every rider who turns up in full safety gear. Proceeds after costs go to the Father Bob Foundation. This is a volunteer activity.
Both the breakfast area and bike parking are under cover.
There is no event registration or entry fee, just roll up anytime between 7:00am and 9:00am. All welcome.
