Melbourne Protest a Success

Thousands turn up for ride

A protest against Victoria's $56 bike tax and a number of other issues, including the use of wire rope barriers on roads and the charging of tolls on the Melbourne's new Eastlink, went off with a bang on Saturday, 5 July.

Organised by independent motorcycle lobbyist and MRA founder Damien Codognotto (pictured), it attracted around 2000 people and managed to attract strong media interest.

"People are fed up," said Codognotto, who said the response was reminiscent of the bigger protests of the 1980s.

The event was supported by Motorcycling Australia, but not the MRA.
