Melbourne-made Savic C-Series cleared for production

Australia's first high-performance electric motorcycle manufacturer has reached its minimum funding target

Savic Motorcycles has announced it will commence production of Australia’s first high-performance electric motorcycle, with the first deliveries expected before the end of the year.

The Melbourne-based start-up has reached its minimum funding target after raising over $1.2 million in a recent crowdfunding campaign. The company reached its goal in just 72 hours, with 411 individual investors taking up the opportunity to contribute.

It follows support from Australia’s motorcycle community and also a major injection of Federal Government funding. The recent crowdfunding result means that Savic can buy production parts and commence assembly of its first C-Series customer bikes.

Savic’s West Melbourne workshop currently has a production capacity of 40 vehicles a month and the C-Series has already attracted more than 250 pre orders.

“We’re really humbled by the response from the public, particularly in the current economic climate,” said 30-year-old founder Dennis Savic. “The fact that so many people have chipped in from their savings in the current economy shows just how much Australians want to support Australian innovation and ride a motorcycle developed in their country.”

The Savic C-Series electric motorcycle will come in two variants

The Savic C-Series will start from $19,990 ride away for the entry-level Alpha variant. The higher-spec Delta variant produces a claimed 60kW (80hp) and 200Nm of torque from its electric powerplant.

The Australian manufacturer also claims a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds and a battery range of 200km. The bike also comes with smartphone connectivity, four ride modes, and a reverse mode.
