Honda's new Grom is just around the corner, with the eye-catching entry-level and commuter model set to create a stir at a very public appearance in Victoria's capital on Thursday, June 30.
The 125cc machine will be put through its paces on Melbourne's city streets by a crack squad of racing greats, before 10 examples of the model go on public display at Federation Square from 11.30am to 2.00pm.
The Grom rider team includes V8 Supercars racers Craig Lowndes and Rick Kelly, former GP ace Daryl Beattie, Honda ASBK riders Troy Herfoss and Jamie Stauffer and Honda motocross riders Dylan Long and Jay Wilson.
Honda says the Grom is "a cool mini sportsbike with a superior design". Powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine with electric fuel injection and a four-speed gearbox, this compact bike weighs just 104kg (wet), boasts a low 760mm seat height, and rides on 12in wheels. That makes it ideal for novices and city commuters, says Honda, who will also be attracted by the model's promotional launch price of $3999 ride away.
The Honda Grom is available in three colours: Lemon Ice Yellow; Pearl Valentine Red or Matte Axis Grey Metallic.
The launch in Melbourne will also feature Honda Grom merchandise giveaways and photo opportunities with several Grom team members, including Daryl Beattie, Craig Lowndes and Rick Kelly, from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
